I lead the development and implementation of our sustainable raw materials strategy. Because resources are finite and using raw materials comes with an environmental and social burden, I truly believe that we need to change our current paradigm. I am proud to do my part towards reducing the industry’s footprint and helping to unlock new value in materials.

My role is to collaborate with partners, industry stakeholders and governments to assess strategic policy opportunities, develop and work towards its implementation through effective advocacy in Sustainable cotton sector. I believe that there is an alternative to the current material production system – one that is both farmer and environment-friendly. It is the challenge of making this alternative the norm and the work of our partners in championing this transformation that keeps me motivated.

I believe that the fashion industry transformation happens through the guarantee of women's rights and gender equality. I manage forced labor and child labor eradication program by strengthening dialogues and partnerships in the search for decent and equitable working conditions.

Sustainable cotton production enables people living in rural areas to improve their quality of life and to preserve environmental resources. I’m responsible for driving our efforts in sustainable raw materials in Brazil. My belief is that we will only achieve systemic shifts towards sustainability in the fashion industry by joining the efforts and commitment of all industry players.

I am on the team responsible for Labour Rights grants in Brazil. The current apparel supply chain perpetuates unequal power relations and allows the persistence of unjust working conditions, affecting more than 2.5 million workers countrywide. I believe in the power of more transparency, strong collaboration among different stakeholders and in the protagonism of women workers, to transform this reality. 

Mayara Bernardes

Programme Analyst, Gender Justice & Human Rights

My daily mission is to make life easier to the managers and partners of four global C&A Foundation programs, and I do this by keeping the administrative and financial processes of the programs organized and updated. I also give technical support to the Circular Fashion and Cotton programs. My motivation is to build new ways of doing fashion that drive systemic change through a more just and circular chain.

My job is to develop corporate volunteering activities and coordinate the donations in kind in Mexico. I think that when C&A employees are engaged with our cause, we can contribute to generate a positive impact in our community. I manage our grants database and support our teams in the grant making process – from contracting to payments. I am convinced that the fashion industry has to be transformed so that everyone along the supply chain can thrive and I feel I am contributing to making this happen.

I manage our working conditions grants in Bangladesh. I believe that the way to create long term improvements in the textile industry is to aim big and set up initiatives in collaboration with other industry stakeholders. Initiatives with quantifiable results can self-finance and become sustainable after the initial push, and can be replicated.
